BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - The sound of Blues filled the streets of downtown Bryan Saturday."It's a happy music. It connects us to our culture, it connects us to the south, and it connects us to our grandparents," said Tiffany Thompson, the mother of a performer in the Blues Fest.

The Brazos Valley African American Heritage and Cultural Society, held their 14th annual Juneteenth Blues Fest.

One of the first events to kick off a week remembering Juneteenth and the freeing of the slaves in 1865."We are so afraid that we are going to lose the premise of why we celebrate this day, with our young people. I know of no other opportunity that they can get beyond the history books to get the history of why we put this on," said Harold Eaton, the President of the Brazos Valley African American Heritage and Cultural Society.
