Our Methodology
How we collect, categorize, rank, and display Texas news — and what we don't do.
Source Selection
We monitor 30+ sources: daily newspapers, local TV station web feeds, public radio, regional wire services, and official government press releases. Sources are vetted for editorial standards before inclusion. We do not include social media, anonymous blogs, or sites with unverified ownership.
To request addition of a newsroom, email newsrooms@texasbreaking.news.
Story Collection
Our feed scheduler checks each source's RSS feed or article endpoint at regular intervals (typically every 5–15 minutes depending on source frequency). New articles are ingested, deduped by URL and headline similarity, and queued for processing.
Categorization
Each article is automatically assigned a primary category (Politics, Crime, Weather, Business, Sports, Energy, Education, Health, Culture, Transportation) using keyword matching against the headline and AI-generated summary. Category assignments are approximate and may be corrected via our corrections process.
Region Assignment
Articles are geo-tagged to one of ten Texas regions using the source newsroom's city, location metadata in the article, and keyword matching against the headline and body. A story about Austin city council is tagged Austin even if published by a statewide outlet.
AI Summaries
Many articles include a one-to-two sentence AI-generated summary to give you the key information before clicking through. These summaries are generated from the article body and are explicitly labeled as AI-assisted. They are not editorial positions and may occasionally miss nuance — always read the full article at the source newsroom.
Ranking & Trending
The default feed sorts by publication time, newest first. The Trending section uses a score based on view count and reader reactions over the last 24 hours. Featured articles are editorially pinned by our team and cleared manually.
What We Don't Do
- We do not write or edit original news stories.
- We do not alter quotes or rewrite article bodies from source newsrooms.
- We do not accept payment to feature or promote articles.
- We do not remove articles from our archive except to correct clear factual errors in metadata (headlines, categories, regions).
