AUSTIN, Texas - A major change is now in effect for Texans seeking a commercial driver license, as all CDL and commercial learner's permit knowledge exams are now being administered exclusively in English.

The Texas Department of Public Safety announced the change took effect June 1 and aligns state testing procedures with federal English language proficiency requirements established by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

Previously, commercial driver knowledge exams in Texas were available in both English and Spanish.
