Nacogdoches Celebrates Texas Blueberry Festival with Quilts and Good Times
The annual Texas Blueberry Festival returned to downtown Nacogdoches, drawing thousands of visitors to the city's historic brick streets. The festival, now in its [number] year, has seen steady growth in attendance over the years, thanks in part to the creativity of local vendors. This year's event featured a unique twist on traditional festival fare: quilts.
Over 100 handmade quilts were displayed at the Fredonia Hill Baptist Church, showcasing the talents of local quilters and their dedication to preserving traditional techniques. The quilts were on display as part of the Blueberry Festival of Quilts, an event that celebrates not only the city's signature crop but also the art of quilting. "We have people in a stroller that's probably a few months old and we have people that are, you know, 90 years old," said Jim Haley, a quilter who won both the best of show and mayor's award for his quilt, titled "Still Undefeated." The quilt, which Haley had started and nearly discarded twice before completing it, was a testament to the patience and perseverance required to create something truly special.
